Jordan's Royal Desert Patrol

Al-Hajanah, Who Are They?

The word "Al-Hajanah", meaning camel riders, inherently signifies attributes such as generosity, kindness, and nobility, all of which are intricately linked to Jordan's Badia community. The Badia desert lands is where the "Al-Hajanah Brigade" originates and where Jordan's tribes continue to dwell.

King Abdullah I, Jordan's founding Monarch, then Emir, wanted to establish a desert force comprised of Al-Hajanah and, in 1921, the Al-Hajanah Brigade was established as part of Jordan's Military Forces, known as the Arab Legion. This desert force remains in existence today and is now part of Jordan's Public Security Directorate.

Members of this Brigade can be seen at many tourist spots around Jordan as part of their duties includes safeguarding tourists and ensuring their safety should they venture off the beaten track in Jordan's desert landscapes.
